BACKGROUND

Since our first Christmas parlor dance for family and friends in 2017, I have committed to having regular dances, attracting teens, singles, and couples. Covid shut us down for 2020. Now that we are emerging from our isolation I notice we all strongly desire to socialize and find community again. In country dancing we find great pleasure!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

NO FANCY CLOTHES;
NO FANCY FOOTWORK

This is family-friendly dancing; even reluctant non-dancers relax and feel confident after a dance or two. In New England we wear comfortable clothes and dance with a certain economy of motion. No prior experience is necessary! (It helps if you know which way is left.)

EVERYTHING IS TAUGHT IN THE WALK-THROUGH

Some dances are circles, some in lines, and a few are neither. Common calls are "Circle left/right", "Forward and Back",  "Promenade", "Balance and Swing",  "Do-si-do", "Right hand/left hand turn". I choose dances to suit the dancers on the floor, giving more challenge when they want it. Experienced dancers will find this more laid back than contra dances at well-known venues but here we are training dancers who may someday fill those halls.

COME FOR THE POTLUCK,
STAY FOR THE DANCE

When we eat together we build relationships. I figure bringing a dish for a potluck supper creates less stress than downing a meal at home before rushing out the door. So that's what we do. Later, we clear the tables and take partners for the first dance. Everybody gets to dance because each is encouraged to take others out on the floor. Variety makes better dancers of us all. If you want to come after the potluck, arrive about 45 minutes after. All are welcome!
